“Sad day” for Stefan Bradl at the Sachsenring

The former motorcycle world champion Stefan Bradl missed the hoped-for result in the points at his home race at the Sachsenring.

In the premier class of MotoGP, the Honda rider finished 16th last on his next assignment as a substitute for the Spaniard Marc Marquez in front of a record crowd of a good 95,000 spectators.

Three years ago, Bradl was tenth at the German Grand Prix when he last competed.

“It’s a sad day, I had big problems driving in this heat,” said Bradl: “I just tried to finish the race, I was physically more than at the limit and also have a burn on my right foot, because it was so hot.” The situation is “not acceptable, we have to improve.”

As the only Honda rider to finish

At high temperatures, Bradl (“It’s going to be brutal”) started the race from 18th place. “It’s a priority for me to get through. I hope I can score points,” said the 2011 Moto2 champion on “ServusTV”.

Bradl came through and made up two positions due to failures. He should have finished 15th for a World Championship point. The German was the only Honda rider to see the checkered flag.

The successor to the former series world champion Marquez, who has won all races at the Sachsenring so far and was absent due to his fourth operation on his upper arm, was defending champion Fabio Quartararo.

The Frenchman won on the Yamaha in front of his compatriot Johann Zarco and Jack Miller (Australia/both Ducati) and further extended his lead in the World Championship classification.
