Two floors of a house, that is the height that pole vaulter Menno Vloon goes over. The personal best of the Zaankanter now stands at 5.96 meters, but he dreams of the sacred six meter limit. “Then you belong to a group of elite jumpers.”
“It seems quite high here, doesn’t it”, Menno Vloon says when he looks up at the bar that is meters above him. In episode 3 of ‘The Beauty of Sport’, NH Sport reporter Erik-Jan Brinkman speaks with athletes such as Jamilie Samuel and Lisanne Schol, but he also visits a training session of Vloon. The pole vaulter from Zaandam is supervised by Christian Tamminga and their goal is to reach the six meters this summer. “I know it’s within reach, now I just have to show it one more time.”
