Sacha Boey wants to be the new Philipp Lahm

Record winter transfer Sacha Boey is forced to get off to a flying start at FC Bayern. He cites a long-time Bayern captain as a role model.

It was only on Sunday that Harry Kane made a big mistake when he visited the fan club in “Kirchweidach”. When asked a seemingly harmless question from children about what his favorite animal was, FC Bayern’s new star signing replied: “I like the lion the most.” For the captain of the English national team, also known as the “Three Lions”, this answer was only logical.

The laughter and jeering that he triggered in the hall visibly irritated him. He only understood this after the moderator of the event explained to him that a blue lion was “the logo of the other club here in Munich”, the unpopular local rival TSV 1860. He grinned and immediately said: “Ah okay, my favorite animal “It’s just a dog.” In doing so, he appeased the Bayern fans for the time being.

Lion alert at FC Bayern

Just two days later, however, the record champions were again on lion alert. With Sacha Boey, an ex-Lion appeared in Bayern team training for the first time. The 23-year-old Frenchman came to Säbener Straße from Galatasaray Istanbul for 30 million euros plus bonuses of five million – a record winter transfer. The symbol of his former club? Of course: a lion!

However, since it is not blue, but orange-red, Boey was welcomed very openly and friendly into the Bayern pack. After his move was officially announced on Sunday, the right-back was on the training pitch with his new teammates for the first time on Tuesday. He hardly left his 18-year-old compatriot Mathys Tel’s side.

This is how Tel Boey was lured to FC Bayern

“I spoke to Mathys, he is a good friend of mine. He really wanted me to come,” Boey revealed and when asked by t-online when he was introduced on Tuesday afternoon, he said: “He told me that Bayern is one of the best clubs and that we want to win everything. That obviously influenced me.”

The two know each other from their time together at Stade Rennes. In addition to Tel, Boey largely stuck to his French-speaking teammates Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and Raphaël Guerreiro in the first training session and left a good first impression overall. After the session he signed his first autographs and took his first selfies with the fans.

Boey has already submitted his Bayern application here

“Sacha is a very bright boy who is bursting with energy. Very strong in duels and on the pitch a lot,” said sports director Christoph Freund, who is convinced “that he will be very good for our team.”

Boey caught the eye of Bayern and Christoph Freund positively, especially in the two duels in the group phase of the Champions League with Galatasaray. With that, Boey, so to speak, submitted his application to the Munich team.

In the intense games (3:1 in Istanbul and 2:1 in Munich) against the overall strong Turkish record champions, Boey “stood out again, especially with the energy that he exudes on the pitch,” said Freund about his “absolute dream player”.

Sané raves about his opponent Boey on t-online

Leroy Sané was Boey’s direct opponent at the time. “He is an aggressive player, but also very good at football. He will definitely help us and strengthen us,” said Sané to t-online: “That’s why I hope that he will be on the pitch as quickly as possible can.”

This may be the case for the right-back on Saturday in the home game against Gladbach. The 3-2 win in Augsburg on Saturday was left-footed
Raphaël Guerreiro defends on the right. Both Noussair Mazraoui, who is with Morocco at the Africa Cup of Nations, as well as Konrad Laimer (torn calf fiber) and Joshua Kimmich (shoulder problems) are currently not available as possible emergency solutions for this position.
