Sabotage at the TU! The Mathematics building of the Technical University was already willfully sabotaged in April. The building has now been closed for the time being.

According to the TU, on July 15, unknown persons caused willful water damage in the Institute for Mathematics on Straße des 17. Juni. According to BZ information, quick cement was poured into the drains on the top floor of the building and the taps were turned on. Six lecture halls are unusable, 2,700 students are affected. Parts of the building were closed at the time.

The building (built in 1982) has been completely closed since Thursday evening. The reason: According to the TU, further defects were discovered during inspections. The eight-storey east wing of the building, which is getting on in years, has to be completely disconnected from the electricity.

This also affects the fire monitoring system as well as the safety and outdoor lighting. “This means that safe use of the entire building is no longer possible,” writes the TU Berlin on its website.

The closure affects teaching, research and administration. Where possible, courses will be rescheduled at short notice. Employees should initially switch to mobile working.

It is not yet clear when the building will reopen.
