The attack on Deutsche Bahn. A comment from BZ editor Oliver Ohmann.

The Berlin S-Bahn advertises with the slogan “Only for everyone”. In doing so, she makes it clear that traveling by train is a kind of leveller. Everyone is welcome in the compartment. We’re all on the same train.

The railway saboteurs apparently see things differently. They paralyzed rail traffic in Berlin, northern Germany and North Rhine-Westphalia on Saturday.

There were attacks on fiber optic cables. As a result, the radio system was disrupted for three hours and no traffic was possible. Thousands of people were left behind. Nothing but trouble.

What did the perpetrators want to achieve?

I’ll tell you what I think. I think the saboteurs accepted the fact that many people not only cannot take their train journey, but may even die. Because a security-relevant system was deliberately paralyzed.

It wasn’t the cables that were the target of the attack, not the train, but all of us.
