S Club release first single in 20 years

These Are The Days is set to be released July 26 in honor of the late band member Paul Cattermoles.

S Club have announced they will be releasing a new single this week to honor their late bandmate Paul Cattermole. The band, which has changed its name from S Club 7 to S Club, announced that their new song, These Are The Days, will be released on Wednesday, July 26.

Sung by current five members Tina Barrett, Jon Lee, Bradley McIntosh, Jo O’Meara and Rachel Stevens, the song pays homage to their “former friend” and “beloved” bandmate, Cattermole.

According to British news magazine The Sun, the track is accompanied by a “moving cinematic story that ends with S Club revealing themselves as the five-piece pop act they are today”. The publication also shared that a close source said the new single “sounds like a classic that will go right up against their old songs.”

Meanwhile, on Instagram, S Club shared a post reminiscent of their old days with all seven members. The photo shows a recording of the video shoot of “S Club Party” from 1999.

The Sun also said: “It’s about looking back at what an amazing man Paul was and the video was very emotional for all of them. It celebrates his life and the amazing career of S Club.”

These Are The Days was written by Cathy Dennis, Simon Ellis, Johanne Ellis and producer John Nathaniel, who were also responsible for most of the band’s number one hits.

On the death of Paul Cattermole

Paul Cattermole passed away on April 6, 2023. A statement from his management confirmed the news. It read: “We are deeply saddened by the passing of our brother Paul. There are no words to describe the deep sadness and loss we all feel. We were so lucky to have him in our lives and are grateful for the wonderful memories we have. Each of us will miss him greatly. We ask that you respect the privacy of his family and the band at this time.”

His death came weeks after S Club announced their return for a reunion tour to celebrate their 25th anniversary.

The band was together from 1998 to 2003 and sold more than ten million albums, with all eleven of their singles reaching the top five on the charts. Across their four studio albums, they had four number one singles with “Bring It All Back”, “Never Had A Dream Come True”, “Don’t Stop Movin'” and “Have You Ever”.

After Paul’s death, bandmate Hannah Spearritt, who dated him from 2001 to 2006, said: “It’s still so hard and I have these moments where I can’t quite believe it’s real. I still can’t believe I’ll never see him again.” She added: “It’s all the more tragic because of all of us he was the most excited about the tour. He just wanted to have fun and enjoy it.”

The singer also announced that she will not be taking part in the upcoming tour. She will release her autobiography, Face The Music, this fall.
