Ryuichi Sakamoto created a playlist for his own funeral

The film composer, musician, actor and producer Ryuichi Sakamoto died on March 28, 2023 as a result of long-standing cancer. But his love for music can still be felt as the maestro from Japan left a playlist for his own funeral.

His management has now released the song collection, which includes works by Ennio Morricone, Erik Satie, Claude Debussy, Nino Rota, Bill Evans Trio, David Sylvan and Laurel Halo. “He really was into the music to the end,” reads the playlist’s release note.

Sakamoto’s last album “12” was released in January and could also be understood as an examination of death. Since then there has also been a collaboration between the Japanese and Suga from BTS (also August D), a track called “Snooze”. It is currently unclear whether further pieces from Sakamoto’s estate will be published.
