ANDfor months that i positive customers at Covid unable to leave, complained of bad treatment from Ryanair as regards the terms of reimbursement.
The airline company led by Micheal O’Leary, in fact, has always followed the philosophy that, if the company has no responsibility and the flight leaves regularly, it is not required to refund.
Positive passengers, no refunds from Ryanair
The explanation for this choice was given directly by the owner of the company in the last press conference, during which O’Leary argued that being positive doesn’t mean you can’t move the departure date. That being low cost, the company does not sell refundable tickets. And that therefore, he had emphasized with his usual polite manner “if you have a cold, are in hospital or your cat dies, don’t come and ask us for a refund“.
This will no longer be the case
And, instead, it seems that he has changed his mind. And retracing his steps Ryanair has decided that it will comply with the Italian rules on reimbursements related to Covid. The company will release to passengers who test positive for Covid-19, or have come into contact and forced into quarantine, a voucher for the amount of the ticket you can spend on the Ryanair website for a new trip. It will be enough, they let the company know, fill in a form and attach the required documentation.
Ryanair refund, an important turning point
An important turning point if we take into account that so far passengers affected by Covid simply had the possibility to change the date of the flight by paying an amount of 40 euros (sometimes higher than the cost of the flight itself).
Ryanair has thus decided to satisfy the pressing requests of many Italian consumer associationswho had repeatedly denounced the behavior of the company, guilty of not respecting the rules of the Italian Civil Code on refund policies.
