Rutger Castricum portrays Gerrit Hiemstra as a dubious pickpocket

Gerrit Hiemstra said goodbye last night after almost 25 years as weatherman for the NOS Journaal. “That was it. I’ve done it for almost 25 years. In that time the weather forecast has changed, the weather has also changed in that time. And that will change even further with climate change,” he warned viewers.

Tricky position

It is not entirely coincidental that Gerrit will now be fully involved in a company that focuses on reducing greenhouse gas emissions. “That’s why I’m leaving. I don’t want to maneuver the NOS into a difficult position and that requires very little,” he explains Het Parool.

He continues: “Suppose there is an item in the Journal about sustainable construction and at the same time there is someone walking around who has financial interests in it, that is simply not possible.”

Hole in head

Gerrit is a radical supporter of far-reaching climate measures. “I haven’t flown for five years. I am a vegetarian and have an electric car. Of course, there has been so much in the media about climate change and its causes. Then I think: do you have a hole in your head that you are still flying to a distant destination? Incomprehensible.”

According to Rutger Castricum, the businessman in Gerrit certainly does not have a hole in his head. “You are not averse to earning a little money, but Gerrit Hiemstra, we can all be jealous of that. That is an entrepreneur through and through. Do you know what he accomplished?” he says in the Today Inside from last night.

Top entrepreneur

Rutger portrays Gerrit as a real leftie. “He has a company where he actually fights against climate change. He sells all kinds of things that fight climate change. On the other hand, he is on the NOS News in the evening telling us that the climate is so bad.”

The PowNed presenter continues: “So he does solutions for the climate. He really sells it. He really is an entrepreneur. And at the same time he is on the NOS News in the evening telling us that it is actually all very bad. Then you actually deserve the Entrepreneur of the Year award.”

‘Create business’

Wilfred Genee also finds it suspicious, he reveals. “You’re actually creating your own business when you say, ‘It’s getting so bad now.’ He also said that at his farewell, that there was something wrong with the climate.”

All those Gerrit-like types are a bit exaggerated, says Johan Derksen. “Gerrit overestimates himself a bit. I think the climate is a problem that you should look at seriously, but if you have Radio 1 on in the car you are told ten times a day that we will soon all be scorched on this earth.”

He concludes: “Hello, Gerrit!”
