Russians appear to have already suffered enormous losses in Ukraine: “70,000 dead and between 220,000 and 280,000 injured” | War Ukraine and Russia

Russia has already suffered enormous losses since the invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022. That’s what British military intelligence services say. This would involve approximately 70,000 deaths and between 220,000 and 280,000 injuries.

For the regular Russian troops, this is probably 50,000 dead and between 180,000 and 240,000 injured. The Wagner group accounts for 20,000 deaths and approximately 40,000 injuries.

“Even Russian officials probably have little insight into the total number of victims, due to a culture of false reporting within the army,” the British said this morning.

120,000 dead

According to the Americans, the Russian death toll would even be considerably higher. In mid-August, American officials spoke in the newspaper ‘The New York Times’ of 120,000 dead and between 170,000 and 180,000 injured. For comparison: on the Ukrainian side, according to the same sources, there were 70,000 deaths and between 100,000 and 120,000 injuries.

It must be said that the Russians have many more soldiers than Ukraine – the ratio is estimated at three to one at the front or 1,330,000 against 500,000 troops – and that Russia has a larger population and therefore a larger resource to draw from to replenish the troops.

Civilians are also not spared in the war. According to the most recent figures from the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (24 September 2023), there have also been 27,449 civilian casualties in Ukraine: 9,701 dead and 17,748 injured.

Number of Russians supporting war in Ukraine has almost halved since February
