Russians and Ukrainians fight for control of 200 kilometers of underground salt mine tunnels that could take them “behind enemy lines”

Russian troops seem to have managed to take most of Soledar, a town in eastern Ukraine. Soledar is known for its salt mines and is located ten kilometers north of the hotly contested Bachmoet. According to the British Ministry of Defense, the fighting now focuses, among other things, on access to the 200 kilometers of salt mine tunnels under the area. “Both sides are probably concerned that they could be used to get behind their lines,” it said.
