The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has granted permission to Russian and Belarusian athletes to participate in the Summer Olympics in Paris next summer. The IOC published about it bulletin on Friday.
Russians and Belarusians who pass the Olympic limits will be allowed to compete in Paris as neutrals. In other words, the emblems, colors and national anthems of Russia and Belarus will not be seen or heard at the Games.
Russia and Belarus have been kept out of the Olympic movement since Russia started the war in Ukraine. It is true that Russians and Belarusians have been seen in value competitions of sports under the IOC without country codes.
The recent decision only applies to athletes in individual sports. There are no teams of Russian or Belarusian athletes in the team sports.
According to the Reuters news agency, eight Russians and three Belarusians have so far claimed their places at the Paris Games. More than 60 Ukrainians are playing sports in Paris.
