On July 10, Putin’s same speech was set up outside his cell for the 100th day in a row, Navalny said on Twitter. And there seems to be no end to it, as prison guards told him that daily routine would continue until the last day of 2023. And then it’s on to the next speech, says Navalny. “As soon as Putin gives his next annual speech, they will play it for us.”
In the 1 hour and 46 minute speech, Putin talks about his reasons for starting the war in Ukraine. The “special military operation” was carried out to “remove the threat from the neo-Nazi regime,” it said. Putin goes on to say that Russia has done “everything possible” to resolve the conflict by “peaceful means” and accuses the West of preparing Ukraine for a “great war” by supplying weapons.
Navalny will now hear the speech nightly for “educational” purposes while serving his 11-plus year sentence. He was convicted of fraud, among other things. In a new case, another seven charges are pending against him, including for establishing and financing an extremist organization. If found guilty, he could face up to 30 years in prison. However, Navalny continues to deny and repeats through a spokesman that he was charged because of his political work.
