Russian fashion designer Yudashkin dies

The well-known Russian fashion designer Valentin Yudashkin is dead. Yudashkin died after a serious illness at the age of 59, state Russian media reported on Tuesday, citing his wife Marina Yudashkina. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov called the designer’s death “tragic news” and expressed condolences to the family – also on behalf of President Vladimir Putin.

Yudashkin, who came from near Moscow, had not only made a name for himself in Russia with classic fashion collections. In 2008, for example, he designed new uniforms for the country’s army.

Yudashkin also achieved great fame far beyond Russia. Since 1991 his collections have been on display at Paris Fashion Week. In the spring of 2022, however, his show was canceled there because the then 58-year-old had not spoken out against Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. (dpa)
