Russian amputee Olympic champion wakes up from coma – Now talks to his wife

46-year-old ice dancer Roman Kostomarov has woken up from a coma, the news agency Tass tells the German RTL’s by.

Kostomarov previously had both his hands and legs amputated in order to keep him alive. Ganges had started to form on the skater’s limbs due to a blood circulation disorder.

The Russian athlete has also suffered cerebral hemorrhage, cerebral edema, meningitis and two strokes.

Kostomarov’s condition is still critical, even though he woke up from the coma. He is still on a ventilator and his immune system is not working.

However, the Olympic champion is now able to talk to his wife Oksana to Domnina and to other loved ones.

RTL says that Domnina has revealed to the Russian website woman.ru a trick that has allowed her to spend a lot of time with her husband.

Domnina has been dressed in a nurse’s outfit for hospital visits, thanks to which she has been able to walk around the hospital in peace.
