Russian tennis star Ekaterina Aleksandrova has qualified for the final of the Libéma Open, the grass tournament in Rosmalen. The number 30 in the world defeated her compatriot Veronika Koedermetova on the grass of the Autotron: 6-3 6-1.
The 25-year-old Kudermetova is six places higher in the world ranking than Aleksandrova, but she had little to contribute. Koedermetova handed in her service early in both sets and was unable to recover.
Aleksandrova will meet the winner of the match between the first-seeded Aryna Sabalenka from Belarus and the American Shelby Rogers in the final on Sunday. ,,Those early breaks gave me confidence, so I could play a bit more freely’, said the 27-year-old Russian. ,,It’s great to be directly in the final in my first tournament of this season on grass.”
Aleksandrova has one WTA title on her honors list, achieved two years ago in the Chinese city of Shenzhen. A few weeks ago, she reached the semifinals of the clay tournament in Madrid as a qualifier.
