Russian and Belarusian swimmers are excluded from the World Championships in the sport in the summer. The International Swimming Federation Fina made a decision on the matter on Wednesday.
Earlier, Fina gave athletes from countries at war with Ukraine the opportunity to participate from June 18 to June 3. July in Hungary.
The decision was the complete opposite of the policy of almost all other sports federations, and many countries made a fuss about it. Among other things, the Finnish Swimming Association threatened to boycott the World Championships if Russia and Belarus were allowed to participate in the Games.
In addition, at its meeting, Fina deprived Russia of the short-track World Championships, which were to be held later this year.
Russia grabbed five medals at the Tokyo Olympics last year, two of which were gold.
