According to Russia, it wants to “radically” reduce its military activities in the Kyiv region.
As Deputy Defense Minister Alexander Fomin announced after Russian-Ukrainian negotiations in Istanbul on Tuesday, military actions in the Chernihiv area are also to be reduced.
The strategically important city of Chernihiv is around 150 kilometers north of the capital Kyiv on the border with Belarus and has come under heavy fire from the Russian army in recent weeks.
Russia speaks of constructive talks
Russian negotiator Vladimir Medinsky described the negotiations in Turkey as constructive. Ukraine’s proposals will now be examined and then submitted to President Vladimir Putin, says Medinski. A meeting between Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is only possible if an agreement has been reached between the foreign ministers of both countries.
