Colau speaks with the mayor of kyiv and conveys the support of Barcelona
The mayor of Barcelona, Ada Colau, held a telematic meeting with the mayor of kyiv, Vitali Klichkó, in which she conveyed the Catalan capital’s support to the Ukrainian civilian population and the desire to strengthen the humanitarian bridge between the two cities .
The meeting, which took place one month after the start of the Russian invasion, was also attended by the Ukrainian consul for institutional relations in Barcelona, Oleksandr Dzoma, who thanked the Barcelona population for their support in the reception of Ukrainian people, has reported the Barcelona City Council.
“It is an attack against democracy and human rights. Their cause is ours,” Colau told Klichkó during the meeting, which focused on collecting the demands for medical and civil material that the population of kyiv needs. The meeting also emphasized that the origin of the war is an “illegitimate invasion” ordered by the Russian government and that, therefore, “what is at stake is European democracy.”
“You can count on Barcelona as a sister city. We will be by your side for as long as the invasion lasts,” added the mayor, who has assured that Barcelona will use its international influence in the different networks of local governments in which it participates to maintain “the pressure and economic policy against the circle of power of Russian President Vladimir Putin”.
