More about the NATO appointment
The appointment at NATO will start with an exchange of views by videoconference with the Ukrainian president, Volodimir Zelenski, who will also address the EU at the afternoon meeting. This point will serve to launch the debate on how to increase military support to Ukraine in the face of fears of an escalation of violence, or even the use of chemical or nuclear weapons. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has already advanced that the Alliance is prepared to protect all its allies in this scenario and that it will redouble aid to kyiv, providing “equipment” to face a “chemical, biological, radiological or nuclear” Russian. In addition, Allied leaders will ratify the deployment of four new combat battalions on the eastern flank. Slovakia, Hungary, Romania and Bulgaria will host these forces, joining four others in Poland and the Baltics, an attempt to shore up NATO in southeastern Europe.
