The Non-Aligned support the IOC’s position in favor of opening up to Russians and Belarusians
The Non-Aligned Movement, which brings together 120 members of the United Nations, has unanimously signed a declaration in favor of the 206 national committees of the world participating in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, which represents support for the position of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), in favor of opening the competitions to Russian and Belarusian athletes.
According to the IOC, the Non-Aligned believe that “the participation of the athletes of the 206 national Olympic committees in Paris 2024 would be a strong symbol of unity”, so they support “the efforts and initiatives of the IOC in this direction”.
Ukraine, a country invaded by Russia, and a part of the European countries oppose the readmission of Russians and Belarusians, who were first sanctioned and then welcomed again in international competitions, albeit with a neutral flag and under certain conditions.
