Russia reports Ukrainian drone attacks on Crimea

MOSCOW (dpa-AFX) – The Russian military said it repelled Ukrainian drone attacks on the Crimean peninsula, which was annexed by Russia in 2014, on Friday evening. The Defense Ministry in Moscow said 26 Ukrainian drones were shot down. Explosions were heard in the port city of Sevastopol because, according to Russian city leader Mikhail Razvoshayev, anti-aircraft defenses were in action. A Ukrainian drone was shot down.

This information could not be independently verified. In many cases it later turns out that the Ukrainian shelling has caused damage that is not officially reported. For the Russian army, Crimea is a staging area in the war of aggression against Ukraine. The supply of soldiers, weapons and ammunition runs across the peninsula. That is why Ukraine is trying to destroy Russian military targets in Crimea. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyj wants to recapture the peninsula.

The authorities also reported Ukrainian drone attacks on Friday from Kursk, Russia, on the border with Ukraine. Four drones were intercepted, said Governor Roman Starovoyt./fko/DP/men
