Russia rejects UN court’s ruling on Ukraine war cessation
Russia rejects the judgment of the International Court of Justice in The Hague on the war in Ukraine. The top judicial body of the United Nations ruled on Wednesday that Russia must immediately cease all military activities in the neighboring country.
While the ruling is binding, the court cannot compel countries to abide by it. According to the Kremlin, both Russia and Ukraine must agree to the execution of the sentence. Russia does not agree with this in this case, according to a spokesperson.
Russia itself did not participate in the case brought by Ukraine and did not make a statement. Ukraine wanted to demonstrate in The Hague that Russia had no valid reason to start the war. President Vladimir Putin’s pretext that genocide is taking place in Ukraine is not correct, according to Kiev. According to the Russian authorities, the “special military operation” is necessary to protect Russians and Russian speakers in Ukraine.
