Liverpool coach Klopp: ‘A really bad man’s war’

Jurgen Klopp has condemned the Russian invasion of Ukraine. “I’m almost 55 years old. It’s beyond my understanding how an adult can put the whole world in such a situation – and of course Ukraine in particular,” said the Liverpool FC coach to Norwegian TV broadcaster Viaplay Sport after the win of the English Football League Cup on Sunday evening against Chelsea.

He knows so many Ukrainians and Russians, “Of course it’s not about the people, it’s about the war of a really bad man,” said Klopp in the direction of Russian President Vladimir Putin. “We have to show solidarity, real solidarity.” Some of his former players are probably at war. “I don’t know exactly, they went straight back to their home country,” said Klopp. It’s all “hard to bear. Since the whole thing started two or three days ago, we’ve all been on our cell phones. It doesn’t look like we can stop him, but we can cause him more problems than he can would have expected. And maybe that will help the people of Ukraine,” added Klopp.
