Kazakhstan’s KazTransOil has applied for an additional capacity of 1.2 million tons for 2023 on the Druzhba pipeline, Russian oil pipeline operator Transneft said, according to the Russian news agency RIA Novosti. The application still has to be approved by the Russian Ministry of Energy.

The Schwedt refinery is connected to the Druzhba oil pipeline and is supplied with Russian oil from the state-owned company Rosneft. As of January, however, Germany no longer wants to purchase Russian oil as a reaction to the Ukarine war. As a replacement, the federal government relies on deliveries via Rostock, Poland and Kazakhstan. With over 3,000 direct and indirect employees, the PCK refinery in Schwedt plays a central role in supplying East Germany with gasoline and other refinery products. But parts of western Poland are also supplied, as is Berlin-Brandenburg Airport.

Rosneft also holds a majority stake in the Schwedt refinery. However, it was placed under German trusteeship in the autumn.
