The two daughters of the former Russian television presenter living in Catalonia Lena Lang, whose custody of the girls was withdrawn, They have been living in Saint Petersburg since before Christmas, hometown of the communicator. The intervention of the Russian authorities, through her consulate in Barcelona, has been crucial for the two girls to be under the supervision of their maternal grandmother, as finally agreed by the General Directorate for Child Care (DGAIA) of the Generalitat. Now the whole family lives together in that city. However, the legal battle in Spain continues. The woman’s lawyer, Silvia Giménez Salinashas requested again that the abandonment be revoked that activated the protection measure and the Administration ceased the guardianship functions, with power being returned to the parents.
Three days before Christmas, the December 22ththe DGAIA granted guardianship to the maternal grandmother, instead of the parent, Thomas, who works in the bank and lives in Switzerland, or the mother, whose care for her daughters was withdrawn on June 17 last year. According to the sources consulted by this newspaper, it was the school that the girls attended that presented the accusations before the entity for the defense of children, which, in turn, reported the suspicions to justice and, in parallel, agreed on the Withdrawal of custody of the mother, who has resided continuously since 2021 in Arenys de Mar (she had previously lived in Catalonia).
In the DGAI resolution, it is even doubted that Lena is the mother of the girls, despite the fact that birth certificates have been provided from the Costa Rican Registry (where one of them was born) and from Arenys de Mar (a town in which the other was registered). The accusations were serious from the start: alleged abuse, abandonment of minors and sexual indemnity.
From Mataró to Saint Petersburg
In December, after the DGAI granted guardianship to the grandmother, the woman stayed with the girls for a few days in a hotel in Mataró and then they traveled to Saint Petersburg, where they arrived on the 31st of that month via Turkey. Before going to the airport, the minors went to the doctor. “In the hotel I could not visit my daughters & rdquor ;, assures Lena, that she traveled separately from her family so that there would be no problems. “I was afraid of losing them and I didn’t risk it & rdquor ;, she explains through a videoconference from Russia. “The girls are fine. There was no reason to take them off & rdquor ;, she insists.
In St. Petersburg they all live in the house of the little ones’ grandmother, who is retired. Lena does not work for now, although she has been promised a position as a scientific collaborator in a museum in the city. “I did not expect to return to Russia. I wanted to stay in Spain & rdquor ;, she maintains. The minors, she specifies, are already schooled ‘on line’ and lead a normal life.

As a result of the DGAI complaint, a court in Arenys de Mar opened some proceedings. In this sense, a report from the Mossos d’Esquadra has been included in the case in which it is concluded that, from a criminal point of view, no act or omission has been detected that can or proves “reliably & rdquor; the alleged crimes that were attributed to Lena. The babysitter of the little ones, for example, declared that she had not witnessed any act of violence against them, while birth certificates were provided, among other evidence.
For Lena’s lawyer, Silvia Giménez Salinas, “it cannot be understood that there was a serious risk to the minors that required immediate intervention and the provisional declaration of helplessness & rdquor ;, as “attacks against physical or mental integrity & rdquor; that made the assumption of their guardianship necessary.
