The terrible atrocities committed by Russian soldiers in Butja are not unexpected. “This is no surprise to military insiders,” said Lieutenant General Marc Thys. “Russia has never been in awe of the well-being and freedom of citizens.” And the end is not yet in sight. “This is still going to happen. Russia has dehumanized the Ukrainians – as the Nazis did the Jews. Then the threshold for committing atrocities is low.”
