Russia fines Wikipedia €22,000 for spreading “false info” about Ukraine | Abroad

It is not the first fine Russia has imposed on Wikipedia. Similar fines were also handed out in February and early April of this year, always because of information that the Russians believe is incorrect or extremist. Wikimedia has already appealed two appeals against the fines, according to Reuters news agency.

Since the invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, the Russian government has been trying to suppress independent information about the war in the country. Wikimedia said in an earlier fine that the information the Russian authorities are complaining about is well substantiated and in line with Wikipedia standards.
