Former Russia correspondent Pieter Waterdrinker is angry with talk show m† Waterdrinker kept an eye on the speech of Russian President Vladimir Putin especially for Margriet van der Linden’s talk show, but his contribution was ultimately not included in the broadcast.
Waterdrinker opens his heart on Twitter, where he has 28,000 followers. ‘I’m standing in front of some k*t program between 7 and 8 on Dutch TV to follow everything here in Russia (for free!). Keep everything else off, even BBC, because they want to talk to me, then they call afterwards: ‘Yeah, we couldn’t reach you.’ Free huh?” This is m… Never again for me’. He gets a lot of acclaim for his message.
Editor-in-chief Erwin Schievink confirms that it was not possible to get Waterdrinker on the broadcast. The editors of the talk show are also very disappointed. “I also understand that he finds it annoying. We wanted to speak to Pieter about Putin’s speech, because then you are on top of current events. We had asked him to do this before the broadcast. During the show, it was not possible to contact him from the director. My colleague had him on the phone during the broadcast, but it didn’t work from the director’s point of view. And that is necessary to let him talk live with the studio.”
Schievink is investigating what caused the technical problems. ,,I want to know that too. We were in contact with Pieter immediately after the broadcast and we may talk further later this week, because he is a good speaker and we like to keep in touch. We’d love to have him on the air.”
