No doubt a different approach to that taken by Bruce Springsteen, live in Ferrara last May 18, a few hours after the terrible flood. A concert in which the Boss made no reference to what happened, despite the fact that he was just a few kilometers from the affected areas.

Russell Crowe and the selfie in Tropea

This tour around Italy is an opportunity for the actor – a lover of rock, folk and country music since the eighties – to rediscover places in our country. In fact, a couple of days ago Russell Crowe posted a selfie by the sea, asking his followers to guess where he was. The answer, then, he revealed himself: Tropea. In the heart of the Costa degli Dei.

On several occasions, the actor has confessed his great love for Italy. And for Calabria in particular. «The world should see Calabria, this land is very beautiful», he said during a press conference for the launch of his tour in Italy.

That first time in Calabria

The lead actor of the film The Pope’s exorcist (taken from the story of Gabriele Amorth) he explained. «In 1992 I had already been to Tropea. I was under contract to make a film with Jennifer Beals, the star of Flashdance. We had already started shooting but a young Australian producer at one point decided to sell the various territories for the film to more people. When this thing was discovered the film was blocked. It was a two-week experience but a beautiful one. Wonderful. The ironic thing is that one of the members of my band, many years ago, based on what I told him, came to Tropea and bought a small house. As when I arrived in Calabria yesterday, I decided to go to Tropea again, I met his friends and the mayor».

Then he added. “Coming here by car I looked around. On one side I saw the wind turbines and on the other I admired the mountains. I was deeply impressed by the beauty of this region. Calabria is beautiful to look at and admire. But I also wondered why people don’t find those huge turbines beautiful. It should be appreciated that they are an important way to produce clean energy. Maybe that’s the thing we need to focus on the most right now in the world.”

The sentence on Berlusconi: “He would be a great character to play”

During the press conference, Russell Crowe also focused on the recent death of Silvio Berlusconi. And he spoke of him as a truly significant figure for our country.

Has explained. «The brain tells me that I’m about to say something that might even sound a little irreverent… But, in short… Berlusconi would be an excellent character to play».

And he argued. «In Italy there are not only many contemporary characters but also many historical characters to interpret. There are so many interesting and captivating stories in this country. After my tour, for the first time I will take a month’s holiday in Italy, together with my children, and I will also be able to study Italian grammar».
