The driver of the snowthrower apparently was in a hurry when he tried to clear Interstate 80 near Cleveland, Ohio. He drove at such a brisk pace on the highway that, instead of landing on the median strip, the grimy-gray mud hit the opposing lane in a high arc. There, the semi-frozen gunk caused extensive damage to cars driving there over a distance of several kilometers.
A video posted by an oncoming vehicle shows vehicles being ‘snow showered’ and one car even going into a dangerous skid as a result and drifting off the roadway.
Twelve injured
However, it did not stop there: the police have reported a total of 47 damaged vehicles after the incident. Some bumped into each other, others crashed into the guardrail and numerous cracked windshields were registered. The extent of the damage can also be seen in the video below.
A total of twelve passengers were injured and had to be taken to hospital. Fortunately, no one suffered life-threatening injuries.
Suspended
The exact cause of the series of accidents is still under investigation. The snowplow driver has been tested for alcohol and drugs. He is provisionally suspended.
