Rushdie on ventilator, may lose eye after stabbing

Writer Salman Rushdie is on a ventilator and is likely to lose one eye after the Chautauqua stabbing, New York state. His literary agent said in a statement that “the news is not good”. It was previously reported that Rushdie was undergoing surgery after being taken to hospital by helicopter.

Salman Rushdie, 75, author of the book The Devil’s Verses, was stabbed Friday by a 24-year-old man. Rushdie’s literary agent says the nerves in his arm were severely damaged by the stabbing. He was also stabbed in the liver.

The motive of the perpetrator is not yet known, the police and FBI are investigating.
