From visibility to clothing, without forgetting the importance of warming up: here’s how to continue clocking up kilometers even in the cold

The days are increasingly colder and shorter: winter has arrived and so clothing and training will inevitably have to be changed a little, but how? Let’s see it together.

clothing

The first thing to talk about is clothing, which is different compared to the summer, spring and autumn months. Here are some tips to take into account

  • Let’s focus on technical leaders absolutely avoiding cotton as, during training, it will become soaked in sweat and then freeze on the skin. In reverse synthetic fabrics, with which most running garments are now made, they are breathable and dry quickly.
  • We cover our legs and arms, we wear gods leggingsone thermal shirtand a breathable jacket.
  • Let’s not overdress, it is true that for the first 5 minutes we will feel cold, but then we will warm up (and the technical garments will help us retain the heat). If we are too dressed we will start to sweat and feel discomfort.
  • We cover the extremities of the body and then the head and hands. A will be fine cap wool or better yet technical (thinner), or if you prefer an ear band, gloves preferably not made of wool, and a neck warmer which can be used to cover the nose and mouth if necessary, especially in case of fog.
  • To prevent damage from the cold, let’s keep our lips hydrated putting some cocoa butter (let’s keep it with us in a pocket and use it if necessary) or a specific cream. This way your lips will remain soft and will not chap.

training

In the cold season it is good to warm up well dedicating at least 15 minutes to this part of the training, to activate the muscles that will be ready to face the session. Starting in a hurry “cold” could cause us to incur an injury. At the end of training, let’s not linger by stopping to chat with someone, but let’s change immediately and if possible we take a nice hot shower. So as to avoid exposing ourselves to the cold with the risk of getting sick.

visibility

And one last piece of advice, Let’s make ourselves visible so that motorists notice us. The days are shorter (and darker), then it will be good to wear light and fluorescent clothes (for example a brightly colored vest), and we put on a headlamp or reflective bands.
