Ajax Women has closed the first half of the season well. At Sportpark De Toekomst, PEC Zwolle won 2-0. Suzanne Bakker’s team therefore goes with only a defeat in ten games into the winter break. “The girls can enjoy a well-deserved winter break,” says Bakker.
Ajax Women did not start the season brilliantly. At the symbolic kick-off of the new season, the captains of all Eredivisie teams had their picture taken with the bowl. The Amsterdammers came to that press presentation for 45 minutes too late show up. So a false start.
“Now we all have to empty our heads and enjoy a nice holiday”
Ajax is doing better in the competition. In the first half of the season, the team from Amsterdam only lost once. After all the good performances, captain Sherida Spitse is ready for a break. “There is a busy agenda all year round. Now we all have to empty our heads and enjoy a nice holiday. After the winter break there are enough competitions for which we have to recharge.”

FC Twente still too strong
Remarkably enough, the Ajax Women have not yet succeeded in beating FC Twente this season. In September, the Tukkers knocked them off the Supercup. FC Twente also lost in the competition. Trainer Bakker is still fed up with the defeats. “We will not soon forget those matches, but we will play another home match against them. Then we have to do our very best and grab the three points.”

Assembly line
The team from Amsterdam has been able to provide excellent statistics so far. With 38 goals ahead, scoring is on the conveyor belt. Nevertheless, there is still room for improvement. “We have to score more goals and decide matches faster. If we dominate more on the field, we will win the matches faster,” says an eager Spitse.
”We want to see that differently in the new year and we will work with that”
Bakker even sees that there is currently a small hitch in the cable. “In recent weeks we have needed many opportunities to score. We want to see that differently in the new year and we will work with that,” said Bakker.

On January 2, the Ajax Women will resume training. The competition will resume on January 20. Then a match against ADO Den Haag awaits at their own sports park.
