Hundreds of fans of the Spookslot in the Efteling gathered in front of the entrance to the amusement park on Monday morning. They all want to get their hands on a book about their favorite attraction and a special Ghost Lock Pin. “It’s a complete madhouse. At first it was pressing at the entrance and now everyone is running like crazy into the park. As if their lives depend on it,” says fan Bart who we speak to.
A total of 2500 books and 5000 pins are sold. According to Bart standing in line, he is there with hundreds of others. They were allowed in at nine o’clock. From ten o’clock the books and pins are then sold at the Spookslot that will disappear.
“Initially you were allowed to buy five books and five pins per person. Due to the enormous interest, that number has already been reduced to three books and three pins,” Bart explains. Nevertheless, he thinks that people will certainly be disappointed.
Rush
“That it is busy here is putting it mildly,” says Eftelingfan Pierre. According to him, there was a real stampede when the amusement park opened Monday morning. “My daughter Eva (6) and I, like most of us, stood neatly in line, waiting for our turn. But a number of young guests who were standing at the back thought they were more than the rest. They ran to the front and ran the kids over.”
He was able to prevent Eva from falling by quickly picking her up on his arm. “She was very shocked, but now she has recovered a bit from the shock.”
Pierre and Eva are now queuing up to get a book and pin from the Spookslot themselves. “It is something unique about the Efteling that will be lost,” explains Pierre. “A piece of history. So you want to keep this, at home.”
