Rumors about Timo Werner’s winter move

Will Timo Werner leave RB Leipzig in the winter? The Red Bulls have now indirectly opened the door for the attacker to make a possible move.

After Timo Werner has not played the full game in a single game at RB Leipzig this Bundesliga season and even had to languish on the bench for 90 minutes against SC Freiburg at the weekend, there have long been rumors of a move about the German national striker, who doesn’t want to lose sight of the home European Championships next year.

Eintracht Frankfurt was recently discussed as a possible stop, as the Hessians are still looking for reinforcements in the attack. When asked, SGE boss Markus Krösche recently weighed it down. So Werner has to assert himself at RB for the time being. But the prodigal son who returned from Chelsea last year doesn’t have a free ticket.

“He is a part of the team that has to face the competition. There is a bit of a performance principle,” said sports director Rouven Schröder at “Bild” and added: “And if others are currently a little ahead, then that is Timo is also someone who faces the whole thing and accepts the matter.” But for how much longer? Time is running out. Werner needs playing time (and goals) to be recommended for the German national team.

Asked by “Bild” whether Werner is a candidate for a change in the winter, Schröder said: “I wouldn’t say that now.”

However, he added tellingly: “We’re keeping an eye on the squad as normal and we’ll certainly have players who might say on their own that they have something else in mind. We’ll face the matter too.” This means: If Werner falls behind in the storm rankings, there could be discussions. A loan in January seems conceivable.

Timo Werner at RB Leipzig “in a difficult phase”

Until then, Werner has to keep pushing through in Leipzig. “He’s been going through a difficult phase for a long time and we still support him. Timo will get out of it too,” said Schröder confidently.

Werner’s contract with the Red Bulls runs until 2026. The attacker has scored two goals in twelve games across all competitions so far this season.
