Rummenigge expects Jürgen Klopp to make a comeback soon

Jürgen Klopp is leaving Liverpool FC with a heavy heart this summer. His plan: take a year off. Karl-Heinz Rummenigge doubts that “Kloppo” can do it.

It will be over in around three months. Then Jürgen Klopp’s time as head coach of Liverpool FC will end. The successful German coach, who won the Champions League and the Premier League with the “Reds”, will leave after almost nine years at the club. “I’m running out of energy. I’ve known for a while that I have to announce it at some point. I know that I can’t do the job over and over again,” he explained his decision at the beginning of the year.

His plan is to take a year off. He is open to a new job in the summer of 2025, but he didn’t want to rule out the possibility of an end to his career. Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, on the other hand, does not believe that Klopp can last that long without football. The long-time CEO of Bayern expects an earlier comeback and expects Klopp to be in the dugout next winter. “He will be sitting on the bench somewhere again in a year at the latest,” he predicted in the “TOMorrow Business & Style” podcast and justified his prediction as follows: “We are all crazy, he is just like all of us.”

Football is “a drug at this level,” explained Rummenigge. Every now and then a top trainer needs to “get away from this drug, but at some point the danger of returning is more than latent, I can already predict that to you today.”

“At some point it gets boring”

Klopp recently announced his departure from Liverpool FC at the end of the season and a year-long break. Rummenigge called this step “courageous” and “honest”, but said: “At some point, and I already know that today, he will get the itch again.”

Rummenigge said that jobless coaches “get bored at some point – and then they quickly want to have some top club again with which they can jazz things up and down in day-to-day business.” The job is “not just financially lucrative. It’s also something that’s fun when you’re successful with a team.”
