Tennis star Andrey Rublev can breathe a sigh of relief after his disqualification in the semi-finals of the ATP tournament in Dubai. The world number five will keep her ranking points and most of her prize money from the tournament.
The Russian objected to the automatic penalty and was proven right. As the ATP announced, the usual penalties for Rublev in the event of a disqualification were disproportionate. The 26-year-old only has to pay the fine of $36,400.
In the semi-final against the Kazakh Alexander Bublik, Rublev freaked out when the score was 5:6 in the third set and shouted in the face of a linesman from a short distance. According to another linesman who speaks Russian, Rublev insulted the official. As a result, Rublev was disqualified.
Thanks to the 200 points that Rublev receives for his participation in the semi-finals, he retains his fifth place in the world rankings, ahead of the German number one, Alexander Zverev.
