Ruben Nicolai sabers André Hazes Jr. down: ‘Self overestimation!’

Ruben Nicolai thinks it’s hilarious that André Hazes Jr. took into account that he might become part of the legendary ‘club of 27’. “That is an example of self-overestimation.”

André Hazes Jr. has been in quite a dip for a while and at one point he even wanted to die, he says in his much-discussed docuseries on Videoland. The folk singer did not even rule out joining the 27-year-old club. That’s a group of legendary artists like Amy Winehouse and Jimi Hendrix who all died at that age.

“Whoa, whoa, whoa!”

Media journalist Mark Koster has already called it enormous self-overestimation and RTL 4 presenters Tijl Beckand and Ruben Nicolai really fully agree with that, they say in their podcast. Ruben Tijl Ruben.

Tijl thinks that André is completely missing the point. “He said one thing that made me think, yes, wait a minute. Ho, ho, ho, ho, ho! I’m willing to swallow and peck a lot, but I’m going to stand for this.”

Club of 27

It is unbelievable, thinks Tijl. “André was so down at one point and in a downward spiral, he says: ‘F*ck it, let it end here and you know what? Then I’ll just join the club of 27!’”

He continues: “The great thing was that Rachel clapped over that with: ‘Well, luckily he’s 28 now! It is no longer possible now. I’m so happy!’ Then I thought: wait a minute, Dré and Rachel. Sure, you make music, you’re 27, but the whole essence of the 27 club is that they were artists who had real international fame.”

Reuben lashes out

Ruben Nicolai fully agrees. “The club of 27… Yes, that is quite an example of overestimation to place you effortlessly in between.”

Tijl: “Yes, exactly. You shouldn’t want to either. Didn’t happen either. I draw a line here as well.”
