‘RTL canceled Matthijs because of rumored howler video!’

Tim Klijn believes that Özcan Akyol is trying to divert attention from his accusations against Matthijs van Nieuwkerk. “I think RTL canceled it partly for this reason.”

Nobody understands it anymore: every day Özcan Akyol claims something different about Matthijs van Nieuwkerk and then half denies it. The AD columnist now claims that there are all kinds of messages circulating from Matthijs to women and he claims that this was reported in the newspaper, but according to AD colleague Angela de Jong that is not true.

Withdraw the key

Radio 538 star Tim Klijn thinks that Eus deeply regrets his possibly untrue statements and is now trying to back down. “I think he’s pulling in his droppings a bit. He’s said it twice. First at Humberto and later at Today Inside. He said, ‘I saw a video on someone’s cell phone.’”

That alleged howler video turned out to be just a fragment from an old DWDD documentary. “He made it seem like it was secret recordings, but it turns out to be just a documentary. Everyone saw that. Very honest: if you say on the basis of this that it is not pleasant behavior… It was just a meeting.”

RTL cancellation

Sidekick Rick Romijn thinks there is nothing wrong with that video. “This was very professional behavior, in fact.”

Tim: “That’s it. He simply asks: ‘Did you call that gentleman?’ That’s what it comes down to.”

Eus has made it much bigger than it is and that is harmful to Matthijs, according to Tim. “I have the impression that Peter van der Vorst partly based his decision not to include Matthijs in RTL’s programming for the time being on Eus’ statements.”

Punished too harshly

If Özcan had not blown it up so much, Matthijs might still be at RTL, according to Tim. “If this is it, then I think he was punished very harshly.”

Eus made his claims about the Matthijs video at the table with Humberto Tan. He now replaces Matthijs in the Olympic Games talk show that he was going to make. Sidekick Niels van Baarlen jokes: “I think Humberto just wanted to go to the Olympics!”
