RTL Boulevard is not so bothered by the first tsunami on the juice channels, thinks lifestyle expert Arno Kantelberg. “All that gossip news has been somewhat taken over by Shownieuws.”
The juice channels are stringing together scoop after scoop, as a result of which the show sections RTL Boulevard and Shownieuws are often a bit behind the times. According to Arno Kantelberg, this is not such a problem for his colleagues from Boulevard, because they do much less gossip and backbiting these days, he says on NPO Radio 1.
Boulevard vs Show news
Arno says that the cheaper gossip has moved a bit to Shownieuws. “RTL Boulevard said goodbye to the gossip news years ago. That was somewhat taken over by Shownieuws. It’s about relationships, but not so much about revealing gossip. It’s a bit of a sliding scale,” he says.
Boulevard of Shownieuws leaves a lot of news from the juice channels until there is confirmation. When they bring it, it often feels like old news. “You can see that programs such as Boulevard and Shownieuws also have to find a role in this with those juice channels.”
hear and hear again
Even a program like Shownieuws still has a kind of journalistic conscience, Arno explains. “Even a program like Shownieuws involves hearing both sides of the coin. Yvonne Coldeweijer doesn’t do that. He does not call the RVD to say: ‘What about Mark Rutte?’ He immediately puts it online. There are some sharp edges to that.”
He also thinks that Yvonne and her colleagues are doing a good job. “They are forcing the traditional magazines in particular – Privé, Story and Weekend – on the defensive enormously.”
