RTL 4 does not want Bridget Maasland on New Year’s Eve: ‘Very unfortunate’

RTL 4 has rejected Bridget Maasland’s proposal to make a program on New Year’s Eve. “I think Boulevard should just be there,” said the presenter.

Bridget Maasland, who has been extremely critical of her boss Peter van der Vorst lately, is disappointed that she will not be seen on television tonight. She proposed to RTL 4 to make a program on New Year’s Eve, but that was shot down. Apparently Peter didn’t really like his critic’s plan…

Chat with Bridget

Bridget’s plan was revealed last night in RTL Boulevard by colleague Lex Uiting. “I think you were in New York last year and you saw the countdown moment there, it was great.”

Oops, that wasn’t meant for national television, Bridget reveals. “Oh, you’re going to tell me that,” she begins bitterly. “Yes, I was in Times Square with my son and of course there are a lot of different channels there. ABC, E!… They stand there in certain places counting down with each other and then all kinds of artists come by and have a chat.”

Countdown on Museumplein

That is what Bridget also wanted to do with her colleagues from RTL Boulevard. “Then, when we came back, I thought: that would be great fun to do with Boulevard, that we would just countdown there on Museumplein.”

Lex: “Unfortunately it didn’t work out with Boulevard – I couldn’t (that’s a joke, Lex is the least important link in the whole, ed.) – but please note: RTL does have something else in store for New Year’s Eve.”

Jamai and Edson

The municipality of Amsterdam organizes a children’s fireworks show and a regular fireworks show on the same Museumplein and Jamai Loman and Edson da Graca talk about this for Videoland. “Well, I see they did something with my idea,” Bridget notes.

Lex: “Certainly, your prayers have been heard. The children’s show with Edson is at 6:45 p.m., then at 10:30 p.m. you have the main show with Jamai, all of which can be seen on Videoland, and at 11:55 p.m. the big countdown moment can be seen on all RTL channels.”

Bridget will try to get it through at RTL next year. “Well, I still see a gap there around 7:00 PM or 6:30 PM next year. Then the children’s show moves a little forward or a little back, so that Boulevard will simply be there.”

‘I still want it’

RTL 4 hopes to score tonight with The Masked Singer, while SBS 6 has the men of Today Inside and Ik Hou Van Holland on the menu. Colleague Rob Goossens, who currently has ‘RTL’ written large on his forehead, is not interested in the latter: “Yes, I am not going to be ready for that.”

But The Masked Singer on RTL 4? Awesome! “We’ll have a whole item about that later!” And then say that Shownieuws is such a PR vehicle…

Mediacourant wishes you a fantastic 2024! 🎇
