Traditional Belgian club RSC Anderlecht have signed Danish goalkeeper veteran Kasper Schmeichel.
The 36-year-old, who was last without a club, has signed a contract for this season with the option of one more season, as announced by Anderlecht.
Schmeichel had last played for OGC Nice and was able to sign as a professional without a club after the summer transfer window for second-placed Belgium.
“Although we are happy with the current squad, it was an exceptional opportunity to bring in a goalkeeper with so much experience and know-how,” said Anderlecht’s sporting director Jesper Fredberg in the statement. “Kasper can be of tremendous value to this club with his experience on and off the pitch.”
The 91-time national player and son of the Danish goalkeeper legend Peter Schmeichel played his second World Cup finals in Qatar last autumn. With Leicester City, the long-time Premier League professional once sensationally won the English championship.
