Royston Drenthe makes his comeback at amateur club Cossack Boys. The 35-year-old from Rotterdam has been training for some time and has signed for one season in Werkendam. The club reports this on the club website.
The player will only play after the summer break for the club that is currently eighth in the second division. Drenthe’s arrival followed a chance meeting with Cossack Boys trainer Scott Calderwood.
“When I met him, I actually didn’t know that he was a trainer of Cossack Boys,” says Drenthe. “Scott joked that he could still use a left back and over time that conversation took an increasingly serious turn. However, the club and I soon found out that I was not yet physically able to help Cossack Boys.”
Fit
According to the club, the player is fit again. “I had to fully focus on life as a footballer again and that is easier said than done. I am now back on the field as a free bird and it is bummed that I am not yet eligible to play,” said Drente.
In the summer of 2019, Drenthe last played for the club from Werkendam.
