With PROFOUND MYSTERIES II, Röyksopp have announced the second part of their project “Profound Mysteries”, the first part of which was released at the end of April. The new songs are scheduled to be released on August 19, 2022. Two of them can already be heard in the stream – “Unity” with Karen Harding and “Sorry” feat. Jamie Irrepressible.
Svein Berge & Torbjørn Brundtland say of the new release: “Profound Mysteries II is a direct sequel to the first part. Recurring themes of love and loss, despair and reconciliation are wrapped in an esoteric nod to the artists and genres that have shaped us over the years.”
Karen Harding is quoted as saying about the collaboration: “I’m really honored to work with Röyksopp, I’m a fan and have always loved the way they make their music. ‘Unity’ is such a special song that builds with an intensity that I crave in music, which helped the vocal performance in so many ways.”
For Berge and Brundtland, Profound Mysteries is the biggest project of their careers to date – one they have worked on their entire lives. The oldest ideas are said to have come from the early days of Röyksopp, “literally using MIDI data that the band composed as teenagers in the 1990s”.
Most of the album was written, recorded and produced in Norway. Strings and woodwinds were recorded in New York, Berlin and Paris. Guest singers include Susanne Sundfør, Allison Goldfrapp, Beki Mari, Astrid S and Pixx.
