Koninklijke HFC drew 1-1 against Jong Sparta tonight. In Rotterdam, Sietse Brandsma was the only goalscorer on behalf of the Haarlem team. Competitor AFC was at home, thanks to goals from Guus van Weerdenburg and Splinter de Mooij, 2-1 too strong for Excelsior Maassluis.
Prior to the game, Koninklijke HFC and Jong Sparta were the number three and four of the second division. In the first half, both teams were very evenly matched and in the opening phase it was mainly a matter of scanning. After twenty minutes, the Haarlem team had the perfect chance to make it 1-0. Brandsma was allowed to score a penalty, but failed by shooting the ball well wide.

Fortunately for Brandsma, he was able to take revenge in the first half. Just before half time, the striker headed in the opening goal after a perfect cross by Vincent Volkert. Five minutes after tea, Kon. HFC goalkeeper Mitchel Michaelis has no chance of a bet from Mohammed Tahiri in the second instance. After the 1-1 of the Jong Sparta attacker, no more goals would be scored in Rotterdam.

AFC received a mid-range athlete Excelsior Maassluis at its own Sportpark Goed Enough. Guus van Weerdenburg managed to break the spell on behalf of the team from Amsterdam in the 36th minute. At the start of the second half, Raily Ignacio had the chance to make it 2-0, but the striker failed face to face with goalkeeper Jean-Paul van Leeuwen of the South Holland team.

Seven minutes before the end, Uli Landvreugd’s team had to take the 1-1. Baset Moshtaq headed the ball after a sharp cross behind AFC goalkeeper Jordi van Stappershoef. However, AFC did not have to mourn the equalizer for long. Two minutes later, Splinter de Mooij scored from a corner so that the three points remained in Amsterdam: 2-1.
Despite the win, AFC remain in sixth place in the second division. Koninklijke HFC made little progress with the point and remains third in the standings. Young FC Volendam that earlier in the evening won 1-0 van Rijnsburgse Boys is thirteenth. Katwijk crowned himself last weekend already to champion of the second division†
