Royal HFC and AFC disappoint in mutual confrontation

A disappointing derby between Royal HFC and AFC ended in a bloodless draw. Young FC Volendam almost left the field with smiling faces, until the emergency lock struck in injury time: 2-2.

In advance, Koninklijke HFC – AFC seemed like a poster to look forward to. Nothing turned out to be less true. A cross from defender Josh Hilton created danger, but Jacob Noordmans was just unable to take advantage. After half an hour, AFC came out for the first time. That great opportunity was wiped out.

It was only after an hour that Koen Tros had a nice shooting opportunity again. The HFC’s effort sailed just next to the crossing. The match did not come loose after that, so the North Holland get-together ended as it started: 0-0.

AFC continues to play at the top and now has five points less than leader De Treffers. Royal HFC is ninth with seven points after six matches.

The tone was immediately set by Jong Volendam against Excelsior Maassluis. Tayrell Wouter aimed the ball at the crossbar after three minutes. That turned out to be the starting signal, because a bet by Quincy Hoeve was removed from the line and Milan de Haan headed dangerously on the goal. Jordi Blom shot the ball again on the crossbar, before he made it 1-0 just before half time. Goalkeeper Kayne van Oevelen had kept the Volendam team going with a bet from Carlito Fermina.

After the break it was Billy van Duijl who dropped the ball on the post after a solo. Hoeve was able to tap in in the rebound and put the home team on roses: 2-0. First Volendam got away well, after Jorn Ringelberg just came up short. It was Dave van Delft, who made it exciting by scoring from afar, 2-1. In the end it all went wrong in stoppage time. Nino Noordanus provided the sour aftertaste at Volendam: 2-2.

Jong Volendam could have done good business, but got the lid on the nose in the final phase. The team is in sixteenth place in the second division.
