The compassionate message was shared on the Royal Family’s Twitter account today.
Official statement
“Our hearts go out to the people of Ukraine and to all those affected by the violence,” the statement said. “We deeply sympathize with the people there and with the Ukrainian community in the Netherlands, which is afraid of the fate of family and friends,” said the king and queen.
The Russian army started the war against Ukraine early this morning. The Russians are carrying out rocket attacks on military targets from three sides, including near the capital Kiev. Ukrainians flee en masse from the violence of war.
Prime Minister Rutte’s response
The attack is strongly condemned worldwide, including by our own Prime Minister Mark Rutte. After a meeting with the cabinet, he said today that he believes there should be ‘maximum sanctions’ against Russia. “We are targeting Putin and his government, not Russia, but we will have to hit him hard.”
