Roxeanne Hazes refuses to testify in Rachel’s lawsuit

To get to the heart of this matter, let’s first take a step back in time.

Lawsuit of Rachel Hazes

Rachel Hazes and her former best friend Marieke van der Beek previously faced each other in court, because they have been arguing about money for a long time. Rachel bought a house for her friend, for which she paid Rachel rent. Afterwards Rachel thought that was far too little and Marieke would also have to pay her a lot of money back. Rachel tried to enforce €1450 rent per month through the courts instead of the €800 Marieke actually paid, but was unsuccessful.

Rachel Hazes goes to court again

Rachel Hazes did not accept that. She went to court again and now also wants her daughter Roxeanne to be heard in the case, which according to her lawyer is about ‘long-term disputes’. But what does her daughter have to do with this case? At the time, Roxeanne signed the lease on behalf of her mother, because things were not going well with Rachel at the time. In addition, Roxeanne, along with several others, was given a power of attorney to trade within Rachel’s company Melvin Produkties. According to Rachel, they abused this by wrongly spending large amounts. That was her reason for a new lawsuit.

More precisely, this case revolves around a rental agreement that is not good, unjustly increased hourly rates and an expensive coaching process that is said to have started. So one of the powers at that time was in the hands of Rachel’s daughter Roxeanne. According to Rachel’s lawyer, it is necessary that she be heard in this case to demonstrate that several persons have acted unlawfully and to discover where the €10,000 has gone that, according to Rachel, has disappeared.

Letter to the judge

In a letter read in court, Roxeanne indicates that she does not want to testify in this case and that the attorneys have stood by Rachel for years, helping day and night. She writes: “Today you are hearing a case in which a mother takes her daughter to court to be heard as a witness. The purpose of this is to demonstrate that the co-plenipotentiaries have abused their power of attorney. This is an absurd assumption for many reasons. These proxies were precisely for many years the most closely involved who supported my mother with advice and action, sometimes day and night.”

Reputation

Roxeanne explains that she would “discredit” her mother if she were heard in this case. “What I have to testify will only further damage my mother’s reputation. I don’t,” writes the 29-year-old singer. She closes with the message that she respects the court, but that she hopes the judge understands that she is not present. “I am a mother myself and it is my primary responsibility to protect my own child.”

The judge will rule next Tuesday on whether or not Roxeanne should appear in court to be heard.
