Finnish Toyota driver Kalle Rovanperä has taken the lead at the Safari Rally in Kenya. After the second day of racing, the first in the overall standings leads in front of Brit Elfyn Evans (Toyota/+ 22.4 seconds) and Estonian Ott Tänak (Hyundai/+ 25.3).
Defending champion Sebastian Ogier was unlucky when he lost the lead after a puncture. With a deficit of more than two minutes, the French Toyota driver fell back to sixth place.
Record world champion Sebastien Loeb had to cope with an even greater setback. His comeback in the Kenya Rally ended after 20 years due to a technical defect in his Ford at the end of the fourth special stage. Most recently, the Frenchman had to retire early after an accident at the Rally Portugal.
The Kenya Rally continues on Saturday with six special stages before ending on Sunday.
